Top Reviewed and Recommended Beauty Products

- This post features some products that were gifted and some which were bought. I will mark each gifted product with a gifted tag. It also features affiliate links and to other posts with affiliate links. -

Hi guys! I thought I’d do something a little different this week as I’m feeling a bit physically run down and wanted to write something nice and positive. So, I’ve decided to look back at some of my old posts and talk about which products are my favourites, still use, any changed thoughts and any other posts I’d love for you to read.

I’m going to look back at what I think is one of the best lipsticks of all time, a fab supplement to battle weak nails, lifeless hair and bad skin, a mascara that gives insane volume and more.

See this as the perfect Sunday evening blog-read-athon post. Get yourself a cup of tea, cuddle up under a blanket and lets get reading!

Best Beauty Boxes UK

Beauty boxes. What’s not to love?! You get to try new and amazing beauty products tailored to you from the comfort of your own home, and sometimes you get full-size products as well, saving you tons of money.

Beauty box goodies (psst... if you'd like to see more pictures like this, be sure to follow my Instagram)

The issue nowadays though is that there are so many around, and that can make it difficult to choose the perfect one for you. Some people want to choose just one box, some don’t mind subscribing to a bunch. All of us though want to get the most for our money. Today I wanted to help those of you who are on the hunt for your new favourite beauty box by talking about a few of my personal favourites.

I’ve decided to compile a list of the beauty boxes that I am currently subscribed to, enjoy and therefore recommend to others. There are still beauty boxes out there that I am yet to try and there are new ones appearing all the time, so if you know of one that I’ve not mentioned that you think are worth a recommendation too, please do leave a comment at the end and let everyone know!

For each box, I’ve written the pros and cons so that you can use that to work out which would be the best box for you, and I’ll be showing examples of what products I’ve received from each as well.

All photos featured in this post are from my Instagram feed, so if you like what you see, please do come over and give me a follow for more!

Lord and Berry 20100 Maxi Matte Crayon Lipstick review

Hey guys! So, I've been away from the blog for a little while, but I am now finally back! Coming back also means that I had to bring a review of something exciting to make up for it, so that's exactly what I'm posting today.

Lord and Berry 20100 Maxi Matte Lipstick
Lord and Berry 20100 Maxi Matte Lipstick

The Lord and Berry 20100 Maxi Matte Crayon Lipstick is a creamy "super power-pigment" crayon-pencil, matte finish lipstick (most of that I assume you managed to gather from the name) that boasts a nourishing formula that promises to be long-lasting and not to dry out the lips.

It comes packaged in a chunky, shiny black pencil with a transparent plastic lid to cover the tip which is great to see the shade inside. The end of the pencil is also the shade of the lipstick inside and I find that it is an accurate representation of the colour (you know that sometimes they aren't).

I received this lipstick in my beautiful October Birchbox (seriously, the box design is sooo pretty, check it out) in the shade Intimacy, which is a dark-pink nude shade, and I have been giving it a thorough test since.

ModelCo Highlighting Trio review

Guys, it's September. We're edging away from the nice, happy, sunny days and into the doom and gloom of Autumn and Winter. However, we don't need to let rain get us down and to make us lose our summer glow.

ModelCo Highlighting Trio
ModelCo Highlighting Trio

The ModelCo Highlighting Trio is a face palette that contains a combination of luminous shades to help us keep that healthy glow all year round.

It has three different shades in the pan, a darker, bronzing shade (Bronze), a pink blush shade (Peach Bellini) and a light pink highlight shade (Champagne). They all contain a bit of shimmer, but I'll go into this a bit more in a moment.

They come packaged in a small, black, circular pan with a flip cap lid that has a transparent lid to see the product inside.

This arrived in my September Birchbox (the other ModelCo item available is the Creme Rouge lip and cheek tint which I highly recommend checking out), so if you're interested in checking it out it may be worth also checking out this months Birchbox!

LOC One and Done Shadow Sticks review

I love discussing new brands and new products, and today I have a fairly new brand to discuss with you all.

LOC One and Done Shadow Sticks in Empress Me and Champagne Problems
LOC One and Done Shadow Sticks in Empress Me (top) and Champagne Problems (bottom).

LOC (Love of Colour) is a new-ish brand by Birchbox, the beauty box subscription service that sends you a collection of 5-6 beauty and lifestyle samples every month for you to try. LOC isn't their only venture into creating products as I've mentioned before (see my Arrow Boost Colour Enhancing Lip Balm review) and even though their product selection is fairly limited right now, I wanted to give them a mention.

The product that I have to show you today is the One and Done Shadow Stick range, a collection of three different shades of eyeshadow pencils that promise ease of use and long-lasting wear. As well as that, the formula is paraben and cruelty free.

Today I have two of the three UK shades to show you (the US Birchbox has more), Champagne Problems and Empress Me, a pale rose gold and darker rose gold respectively.

They come packaged in small, black, glossy pencils with the same gloss-finish plastic cap and they hold 1.35g of product. The ends of the pencils show the colour of the eyeshadow.

Jelly Pong Pong Paradise Pigment review

I love summer. Whilst we don't always get the most of the sun though over here in the UK, we know how to make the most of it when we do. When it comes to makeup, I love bringing out my bright and colourful products, which is why, on this hot and sunny day, we're going to be looking at a very vibrant pot of pigment.

Jelly Pong Pong Paradise Pigment
Jelly Pong Pong Paradise Pigment in Cake Pop

Jelly Pong Pong's Paradise Pigment pots come in two super bright, cream shades that are designed to be used on both the lips and the cheeks to add a flush of summer. There is Cake Pop a bold pink-red coral and Fig Jam, a vivid purple-pink orchid. Whilst the name Cake Pop reminds me of Clinique's Pop range, I really love the name Fig Jam. Anyone else!? Both shades may look a little daunting in the pan, but rest assured that they don't apply that brightly on the face.

Each pot contains pumpkin seed oil and rhubarb extract for "plush, cushiony skin".

I received the shade Cake Pop in my June Birchbox, so if you'd like to subscribe to see if you receive one too, you can subscribe to Birchbox here.

They come packaged in a small, clear jar with a black screw cap lid that holds 4g of product.

Polaar Polar Night Cream (Creme Nuit Polaire) review

If you're a regular reader of the blog, you'll more than likely know that I'm a big Birchbox fan. The March box was pretty decent and I have already reviewed the great Arrow Boost Colour Enhancing Lip Balm recently which a lot of you have loved.

Polaar Polar Night Cream (Creme Nuit Polaire)
Polaar Polar Night Cream (Creme Nuit Polaire)

Well today I'm reviewing another product that arrived in my March Birchbox. This one is a night cream from Polaar called Polar Night Cream (or Creme Nuit Polaire in French). It is created to regenerate your skin as you sleep.

It contains Rhodimenia Borealia (boreal algae) that reacts to the light of the moon to leave your skin refreshed, revitalised and radiant by morning.  It also says that night after night, your skin will be "recharged with oxygen". I'm not 100% what that is supposed to mean exactly, but we'll go with it!

In addition, it also includes phytomelatonin, a vegetal enzyme that is similar to the hormone melatonin that is released by the brain overnight. This then "activates the biological mechanisms responsible for nightly cellular regeneration".

It is also free of parabens, mineral-oils and alcohol.

The size that I received in my box is the small, 25ml squeezey tube (which in parts is sort of holographic and very pretty), but the full size comes in a screw cap jar that holds a nice 100ml of cream.

The jar itself is also very beautiful. It is white with dark blue writing and stars around it (see it here).

The cream is quite thick and bright white. It also has a light, powdery fragrance to it that is fresh yet relaxing.

Arrow Boost Colour Enhancing Lip Balm review

I'd like to start off by apologising for this post being delayed a day. I'm currently feeling unwell, so writing took a little longer than normal! As being ill is a miserable time, I've decided to write about a product that makes me happy, and it's suitable for everybody. Hooray!

Arrow Boost Colour Enhancing Lip Balm
Arrow Boost Colour Enhancing Lip Balm
Arrow is a new brand that has been launched by Birchbox after the success of their first brand release, LOC (Love of Colour). The Boost Colour Enhancing Lip Balm is a one stop balm and colour enhancer. The shade of the product is determined by the pH levels in your skin, meaning that it is unique to everyone.

It is designed to "go wherever you do", from those early morning school runs, to work and then beyond, it's lightweight formula is suitable for all occasions and situations throughout your day.

It contains mango seed butter for hydration and it is vegan, paraben-free, gluten-free and cruelty-free.

It comes packaged in a white, plastic tube with a bright, geometric pattern around it that I love. The product itself is a very faintly tinted pink balm with a slightly domed tip for easy application.

My balm arrived in my March Birchbox (every subscriber receives one this month!) and I've been trying it out since it arrived.

Cowshed Gorgeous Cow Blissful Body Lotion review

The right moisturiser can be really important in your skincare routine, but do you know what can make it that little bit better? Skincare that also helps to alleviate your mood.

Cowshed Gorgeous Cow Blissful Body Lotion

Cowshed have a whole collection of different products that not only take care of you on the outside, but help to keep you perky mentally. The Gorgeous Cow Blissful Body Lotion is one of the products in the Gorgeous Cow range that carry the floral blend of ylang-ylang, rose and palmarosa to help evoke happiness as well as lavender and linden blossom to soothe. It also contains the highest quality Cocoa and Shea butters to leave your skin feeling soft and super smooth.

I received this little beauty in my January Birchbox (a good one for the start of the year, you can subscribe here!) and I couldn’t wait to review it all for you here on the blog. Cowshed is a brand that I have been desperate to try out for a while due to being a big fan of natural skincare as well as aromatherapy.

The bottle that I have is a 100ml bottle, but the full-size comes with 300ml of Body Lotion. It comes packaged in a plastic tube with a black flip cap lid. It has a cream-coloured sticker covered with beautiful red flowers around the middle that contains the product information around it. The product itself is white and creamy.

So Susan Featherlash Mascara review

There are certain things that we all want our mascara to achieve; added volume and length with great longevity is usually the right ballpark to aim for. It just so happens that the mascara that I'm reviewing today claims to do just that and more - but does it actually tick all of those boxes?

So Susan Featherlash Mascara

So Susan is a brand that was started up by Susan Chyi in 2013. Originally the founder of the brand Jelly Pong Pong (who also collaborated with Nicola Roberts on her Dainty Doll range) before selling it on to travel the world, she now works hard to provide a range of cosmetics that will "enhance your life, bring joy to your every day makeup regiment as well as delight your senses".

The Featherlash Mascara by So Susan claims to provide volume, length and long-lasting wear in one stroke. It also contains Silk Amino Acids and Moringa Seed Extract to help to keep your lashes strong and silky smooth.

It has a thick wand with a conical tip to coat your lashes in thick, ultrablack pigments, whilst reaching the shortest ones all at the same time. It is also a water-resistant formula.

In addition to what it does, it is free of mineral oils, fragrance and phthalates and is hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic and suitable for contact lens wearers.

It comes packaged in a thick, shiny, black plastic tube with a screw cap that contains the wand. I received mine in a Birchbox from November 2015.

Skin & Co Sicilian Body Gel review

During the colder months, it can be nice sometimes to daydream about a holiday in some warmer climate. Instead though, you can always bring the essence of a beautiful Mediterranean country to your bathroom.

Skin & Co Sicilian Body Gel

The Sicilian Body Gel is a luxurious, natural body wash from the family-run business Skin & Co that are from Umbria, Italy.

It contains organic olive extract to smooth and soften the skin as well as Sicilian orange extract that has antioxidant properties to restore balance to the skin and to promote youthful skin.

It is free of parabens, mineral oils, sulphates, propylene glycol and parrafins.

I received a small bottle of this Body Gel in my December Birchbox/bag (yep, second product from the bag that I'm reviewing this week! This month's is a good one, you should really check it out!), so the packaging isn't bang on the same, but there is only a slight difference.

ModelCo Party Proof Lipstick review and swatches

It's that time of year again - Christmas time! As well as the big day itself, there are usually a whole host of events happening in the run up and afterwards too, making it party season! Therefore, it's time to pull out your party proof makeup. Luckily, today I have an item to review that claims to be just that. It's the name of the product and everything!

Model Co Party Proof Lipstick

ModelCo's Party Proof Lipstick claims to be an ultra long-lasting lipstick that provides a super vibrant, semi-matte finish colour. It comes in a range of 17 shades that promise not only to be party proof, but drink proof and kiss proof (pucker up!).

Today I have the shade Smitten to show you, which arrived in my December Birchbag (sign up to Birchbox here! This months comes with a pretty, sparkly clutch bag!). It is a beautiful, dark, cranberry red shade.

This particular one that I have comes packaged in a sleek, black tube which is the limited edition packaging rather than the usual white, rectangular tube.

Here is what I received in my box this month:

Mirenesse Mattfinity Lip Rouge in Sydney review & swatches

The Mirenesse Mattfinity Lip Rouge is a matte lip colour that includes Gel-Lite technology and a Lip Hug applicator. It has a mousse-like texture that helps to fill in lines and to make lips look fuller, and thanks to its inbuilt stain it has incredible lasting power too. It also claims not to feather or fade meaning that no lip liner is necessary, and it also contains vitamin E and organic beeswax to help keep lips hydrated.

Mirenesse Mattfinity Lip Rouge

It comes in a range of ten shades that are all named after famous cities from around the world. Each colour has a plush, velvet finish.

I received my miniature tube of Mirenesse’s Mattfinity Lip Rouge in my Free Your Mind May Birchbox in the shade Sydney, which is a bright and bold pink-red colour. I said in my May Birchbox post that I was going to write a full-length review, so without further ado, here it is!

Birchbox Free Your Mind May 2015 box review

Birchbox is a monthly beauty box that includes 5-6 deluxe samples of beauty and lifestyle products that are tailored to you.

You get to discover new products and test them out in the comfort of your own home with no pressure to buy the full product if you don’t like it! Birchbox Free Your Mind May 2015

The theme of this month's box is "free your mind." It is all about getting creative and experimenting. The box design is a fantastic idea and I particularly love the fact that this box is a black and white pattern that you can colour in (it even comes with a mini box of colouring pencils!). I was super excited to colour in my box, but my little man managed to get his hands on it first and coloured all over it in black crayon! Maybe I'll have to invest in an adult colouring book instead!

Here is what I received in my box this month:

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer review

Laura Mercier’s Foundation Primer is a lightweight, invisible makeup base that claims to leave your makeup looking “fresh and colour-true all day”.

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer

It contains vitamins A, C and E to protect the skin from environmental stresses that have an ageing effect on the skin. It also comes in oil-free, radiance, radiance bronze, SPF, hydrating and mineral versions.

The primer itself is of a creamy, gel-like consistency that is off-white in colour, but applies transparent.

There is a lot of hype and love around this primer, so when Birchbox gave its subscribers the opportunity to sample a Laura Mercier product in their April box it was a no-brainer for me to choose the Foundation Primer

Korres is a natural skincare brand from Greece. Their Body Milks are 92.3% natural and combine provitamin B5, jojoba oil and Shea butter to help improve the suppleness of the skin and provide long-lasting moisture. As well as this, Active Aloe, antioxidant enzymes, zinc and vitamin E also help to support the immune system of the skin whilst sweet almond oil acts as an anti-inflammatory.

Korres Bergamot Pear Body Milk

They come packaged in flip-cap tubes that hold 200ml of product. The Body Milk itself is of an average consistency, not too runny or too thick, and is white in colour. They come in a range of ten different scents.

If you have read my review of the latest Birchbox (April’s Royally Good box) then you will see that I mentioned that I was planning on writing a full-length post about this product. Having made it through my sample, I now have a full-size version of the Korres Bergamot Pear Body Milk to show and discuss with you today!

Birchbox - Royally Good April 2015 box review

Birchbox is a monthly beauty box that includes 5-6 deluxe samples of beauty and lifestyle products that are tailored to you.

You get to discover new products and test them out in the comfort of your own home with no pressure to buy the full product if you don’t like it! However, if you do enjoy it, you can purchase the full sizes from the Birchbox store with the most recent month’s brands being available with free delivery (min. £10 spend)!

Birchbox April 2015 Royally Good

To celebrate the upcoming birth of Kate Middleton and Prince William’s second child, Birchbox have themed this months box around the new royal baby. The Royally Good box comes in two different colours - pink for a girl and blue for a boy - and the box that you receive is a surprise to everybody. To add into the fun, the different coloured boxes are also part of a competition. To enter, you need to take a photo of your box and upload it to Instagram, Facebook or Twitter with a description of what you would do if you were Queen for the day. You also need to make sure that you add the hashtag #HRHBirchbox and by tag @BirchboxUK. Once the royal baby is born, if it is a girl, all of those who uploaded a photo of their pink box are entered into the competition for a chance to win a collection of pink beauty goodies. If it is a boy, all of those with the blue box are entered instead to win a collection of blue beauty goodies!

I was incredibly excited to receive the pink box! A few weeks ago, myself and my boyfriend welcomed our beautiful new baby girl into the world. Therefore, to me, this box also feels a little like a celebration for our second bundle of joy! Funnily enough, as a random fact, I was pregnant with my first child at the same time Kate Middleton was with Prince George as well as us being pregnant with our second at the same time, too. In my eyes this theme couldn’t have been more perfect!

Here is what I received in my box this month:

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara review

Benefit’s new Roller Lash mascara is an ink black, water-resistant, satin finish mascara that provides instant length and curl to even the shortest and straightest of lashes.

Benefit Roller Lash mascara

It contains a Hook & Roll brush that is created to act like a hair roller for eyelashes. The bristles contain little hooks that are placed to grab at the lashes, separate and curl them as the formula sets the curve into place for up to 12 hours.

Benefit Roller Lash mascara

The Roller Lash formula also includes Serin and Pro Vitamin B5 to condition the lashes.

It comes packaged in a sleek, black tube with a baby pink, screw cap lid that is designed to look like a hair roller.

I currently have the sample that was included in my March Birchbox which looks slightly different to the full-size, but if you click here to go to the Benefit website, you can see the proper packaging.
