MAC Upward Lash Mascara review

Ah, mascara. Who doesn't love mascara? Choosing a good one is important if you are looking to pull a look together nicely, so today we're going to be looking at one by a rather popular makeup brand (understatement of the century) to help you choose the best for you.

The MAC Upward Lash Mascara is a product that claims to provide volume, length and curl. It is also designed to be smudge-proof, flake-proof, fragrance free and safe for contact wearers.

The brush is small, but don't be fooled. The centre of the brush is hollow which enables it to hold a lot of product within it to coat the lashes evenly.

It comes packaged in the style of MAC's ever famous lipstick range, so it looks like an amazing, giant-sized lipstick! Now if only MAC could get onto that as well...

MAC Studio Finish Concealer review

As I’ve brought up before on the blog, if you were to only be able to wear one type of makeup at a time, what would you choose? My personal first thought when being asked this question is concealer. Ever since I started wearing makeup, a good concealer has been a necessity in my life.

Today I’m reviewing MAC’s Studio Finish Concealer, a product that claims to be “lightweight, creamy [and] discreetly opaque”. It provides long-lasting coverage that is supposed to be able to cover everything form dark circles and blemishes to tattoos and it is also water-resistant, non-comedogenic and fragrance free.

In addition, it also contains antioxidants, Silica to absorb the skins oils and SPF 35 to protect from the sun.

MAC say that this concealer is so concentrated that you only need a tiny amount to cover whatever you need to cover.

It comes packaged in a small, round and typically MAC, sleek, black pot with a transparent piece of plastic in the lid to see the concealer inside.

Avon Perfectly Matte Lipstick review & swatches

In the lipstick world, MAC pretty much have it covered. Their matte lipsticks are rather amazing and provide a fantastically matte finish that a lot of other companies simply can’t reproduce, so for a company to boldly stand up and claim that their new lipstick is more matte than MAC deserves a bit of attention.

Avon Perfectly Matte Lipstick

This is exactly what Avon are claiming with their brand new True Colour Perfectly Matte Lipstick. The whole advertising campaign appears to be based around being “more matte than MAC”, stating that they have ran tests and that the results are on their side. They are also only a fraction of the price, with MAC selling for £15-£15.50 and these will be starting off at £5.50 (and then increasing to £8).

Naturally then, I had to put this to the test. Today I have every shade from the new Avon Perfectly Matte Lipstick collection to show you (there are 15 in all) and I also have a matte finish MAC Lipstick in the shade Sin for comparison purposes. Are these lipsticks really more matte than MAC? Let’s find out.

MAC Crosswires Lipstick review

MAC’s Crosswires lipstick is a pinky-orange shade that isn’t overly vivid but definitely not dull. It is one of MAC’s Cremesheen finish lipsticks, meaning that it is has a creamy, glossy shine to it when applied.

The Cremesheen formula is also quite pigmented, so it is easy to build up into a bold, opaque colour. Along with this, it is also designed to be comfortable on the lips.

Crosswires is one of my go-to shades for Spring. It’s not a new release, but if you are on the lookout for a new shade to wear now that the weather is beginning to grow warmer, then read on!

What's in my Makeup Bag - Casual out and about

I know that a lot of people do these ‘What’s in my handbag/makeup bag’ posts, but what I wanted to show you guys is the makeup that I take with me when I’m going out for the day with my family. This could be out shopping or for lunch - I’m talking casual occasions.

Being a mother, I don’t really have any time during the day for touch ups anymore. Especially when out with my family! In fact, it can be difficult to get through a meal without having to stop every two seconds to either pick up a dollop of food or a toy from the floor or to wipe little mans mouth. My food likes to go cold and then gets eaten quickly in the seconds that I have whilst little man is busy chewing his food before he demands his next spoonful.

Now if you can imagine that (and if you’re a mum I am sure you go through the same!), you can understand why makeup touch ups aren’t really high up on my list of priorities anymore. That is why I love products that last a long time and keep me feeling fresh and on point throughout the day without the use of touch ups.

However, if touch ups are required it means that for me, they have to be as quick and easy as possible. This is why I wanted to share this ‘What’s in my makeup bag’ post - for any mums out there and women who generally don’t have time to touch up, I’d love to compare out and about products!

Here is what I take with me, unceremoniously spread out onto my bed:
