L'Oreal Nude Magique CC Cream Anti-Redness (with before and after pictures)

L’Oreal’s Nude Magique CC Cream for Anti-Redness is a green, colour correcting cream infused with L’Oreal’s ‘smart colour particles’ that transform the cream into a foundation that matches your skin tone. It is a light coverage which can be built up and it includes SPF 20 and also claims to provide 24hr hydration.

This is actually the first CC cream that I have tried. It’s a little crazy to think that when one of my main skin issues is redness and it is the thing that I probably spend most of my routine attempting to correct. Truthfully though, it isn’t because I haven’t wanted to try a CC cream - trust me, I have! - but it has been more of a case of just ‘getting around to it.’

I went to pick up this particular CC cream when it was first launched, but when I went to buy it it was completely out of stock everywhere. Therefore, I ended up picking up the Nude Magique BB Cream by L’Oreal. I found that it was a good BB cream, but it always turned me slightly orange. It was a tad annoying, I won’t lie, but I found the coverage to be pretty good and the skin benefits okay too. As I reached the end of the tube though, it did start to smell a little… odd. I stopped using it around that time as the smell completely put me off!

So anyway, when I was out shopping recently, I finally picked myself up some CC cream! I chose this one because yes, even though I did have mixed feelings with the BB cream, this CC cream was the original one that I wanted to try. I was just hoping that it contained all the things that I loved about the BB cream without any of the bad parts.

The consistency of this cream is rather watery, like the BB cream was. It comes packaged in a 30ml tube with a long nozzle on the end for the product to come out of. I can’t say much yet about the packaging of this cream, but I remember the decoration and product information on the BB cream fading drastically over a short period of time. I only used it for roughly a couple of months or so, but the fading happened very fast. If I didn’t know that it was the BB cream, you wouldn’t be able to tell what it was. It was just a white tube! The CC cream does have the same style, but I’m hoping that the fading won’t occur with this!

The cream itself comes out green with small black dots in it and it almost feels grainy at first touch. However, once you begin to blend, the texture transforms and so does the colour! Magic!

In regards to covering redness, I found that this did a pretty good job! My boyfriend noticed that my skin looked different straight after applying it, so that is saying something.

My favourite thing about this cream though is the fact that on the days that I have used it, my routine has been sped up. A lot. No messing around with the foundation, blending it with a brush, applying concealer anywhere with noticeable redness etc. This CC cream does it all in seconds! It’s like a mothers dream! It has a light coverage that can be built up to more of a medium coverage. I usually prefer a heavier coverage to disguise patches of redness, but seeing as this cream is correcting those parts it means that the light coverage is enough for me, which is fantastic!

Here is a before and after shot:

In the before shot, I am only wearing Benefit's Lemon Aid on my eyes and Benefit's POREfessional on the rest of my face. In the after shot I am wearing nothing more than Lemon Aid, POREfessional and the CC cream.

However, every time I think that something is too good to be true, something has to upset me.

My main gripe with this cream is the same issue that I had with the Nude Magique BB Cream - It makes me look a little orange! I’m not really sure how these ‘smart colour particles’ are supposed to work, but I’m not sure if they are as ‘smart’ as they claim to be. That may be a little harsh to say and I don’t mean to sound too angry about it. In fact, I have actually worked a way around the ‘Tango’ side of this cream. Annoyingly, it means that to work around the shade issue, you then cut back into your new, speedier getting ready time.

The way I find myself using it is to apply only a small amount, ignoring the claim of buildable coverage. Applying more of this doesn’t help, it just makes you more orange. My advice is to stick with the small amount and apply concealer on any patches of redness left behind. Your routine time with still be shortened, but when you know that in theory that I could be faster, it can irk you a little.

Admittedly, I barely find any redness left after using only a small amount of cream, but if I have a fairly new blemish that is having a red moment then this only covers it slightly and will need concealer. Yet again, maybe I’m just being too nitpicky.

With this all said, perhaps this is down to my fair skin. I imagine that if you have a medium skin tone or darker then you shouldn’t have any issues. If, however, you do have fair skin, then just be wary of how much you apply!

Overall, putting the bad points aside, I do actually really like this CC cream. I have found that it really does significantly cut down my average getting ready time and for me, as a mother, that is an absolute godsend. If the only issue that I have to deal with is to watch how much I use to avoid the Oompa Loompa look, then I’m far happier than having to spend my time applying foundation, then concealer and so on. If I’m in a rush, the CC cream does it a lot faster!

With that said, if I’m heading out somewhere nice or whatever, I will most likely stick to my foundation and concealer routine and simply spend a little extra time. The shade match is far better for me that way, as is the fact that my foundation gives more of a matte finish on my oily skin. I guess that overall it is a matter of preference, as with all beauty products! However, if you are looking for a colour correction cream, definitely give this one a shot!

I picked my cream up from Boots for £9.99.

Have you ever tried a CC cream? Or do you prefer BB cream?

  1. I tried the bb cream and it made me look orange too! I only used it once and my hubby said I looked tangoed so I never used it again.
