Avon mark. Epic Lipstick Summer Shades and Epic Transformers Lipstick reviews and swatches

Hey guys! If you remember right back at the very end of 2017, I reviewed and swatched all of the new Avon mark. Epic Lipstick shades. Well, if you enjoyed those then you are in for a treat today as not only do I have three new summer shades to share with you all, but I have some exciting transforming shades for you too! "Transforming what?", you may ask. Allow me to explain.

Along with the release of the three new summer shades of the Avon mark. Epic Lipstick, which is a creamy lipstick with a built-in primer, Avon are releasing six new mark. Epic Transformer Lipstick shades which are designed to be either worn alone, or over the top of your favourite shades to create new ones.

Each shade is a sheer, metallic and/or shimmer shade and comes in hues such as gold, silver, metallic pinks and even a holographic shade packed with iridescent glitter. They are perfect for those who love to mix up their look, or for those looking to inject some excitement back into shades that have been over worn.

Out of the six shades, I have two to show you all today. I have Guilty Pleasure, a gold transformer shade, and HolograFX, which as you can probably guess is the holographic shade that I mentioned above. In addition, I have swatches of the three new Epic Lipstick summer shades in Mermaid Tale, Sweet Taffy and Fearless Fuchsia to share with you all.

If you missed my previous post featuring all of the shades of the mark. Epic Lipsticks, make sure that you check it out for all the info you may need regarding the range! Whilst you are here though, I shall give you a quick overview of what they're about.

The Epic Lipsticks are designed with a built-in primer and are super creamy for a velvet smooth application and finish. Each shade is promised to be packed with pigment and lips look airbrushed when worn.

The Epic Transformer Lipsticks come packaged in a very similar packaging to the Epic Lipsticks, with the only difference being the style of the lid. Each lid comes with mark. written around it, but the Transformers have a contrast between black and white. It's pretty hard to explain, so I hope that the photos explain what I am clearly failing at doing in words!

I’m going to start off by showing you the swatches of the Epic Transformer shades that I have worn alone, and then I’ll get into the swatches of the new shades of the Epic Lipstick collection. After every swatch, I will then show two further swatches of the same shade but with one of the Transformers worn over the top so that you can see them in action over the new shades to get an idea of how they work.

I shall go into more detail about wear time, application and my personal thoughts at the end of the post, after the swatches.

Guilty Pleasure

A shimmery gold, sheer lipstick topper. It does look patchy when worn alone, but still quite pretty in person. It does settle a bit into creases. Due to the shade, it may made your teeth look more yellow than they actually are, but it would look pretty good with a tan.

HolograFX

This is a super shimmery, sheer white lipstick with chunky iridescent glitter. Worn alone, the colour of the lips will show through, hence why it looks pink on me. When worn over other colours, it will be more of a frosty finish.

Beautiful dark teal/green. Easily one of the best shades out of the entire range. It has great pigmentation and applies really well. If you are after something more green, then you can achieve that too with one of the toppers (see below).

Mermaid Tail with Guilty Pleasure Transformer

See what I meant about more green? Adding a layer of Guilty Pleasure over the top of Mermaids Tale gives you this beautiful, shimmering, emerald green hue. It did become a little patchy in areas after blotting and applying the topper over, but you can balance it out with a bit of work.

Whilst Guilty Pleasure turns Mermaids Tale greener, HolograFX sends it down the bluer route. What isn’t super clear in this photo is the chunky glitter of HolograFX, but what I can say is that in person this is a super pretty shade.

Sweet Taffy

This is a beautiful, bold lilac shade that is perfect for summer. It applies nice and opaque so there is no streaking and it’s a speedy application.

Sweet Taffy with Guilty Pleasure Transformer

The photos of this just really don’t capture the shade properly. In person, this is a gold-pink that really shines as you turn your head with a duochrome finish. Super pretty.

This shade doesn’t transform Sweet Taffy as much as Guilty Pleasure, but it does seem to make it brighter as well as shimmery.

Fearless Fuchsia

The photo of this does not do the brightness any justice! Fearless Fuchsia is like a neon pink, the type that would look really great on someone with a tan.

With Guilty Pleasure layered over the top, Fearless Fuchsia is transformed into a bright and shimmering Barbie Pink with a duochrome finish.

If I was asked to create a lipstick that was inspired by the unicorn trend of the modern day, I would probably make this. Whilst it isn't as easy to see in person as it needs head movement to appreciate properly, the chunks of glitter in this shimmer as you turn your head, so you get flashes of blue, pink, silver and lilac. Layered over the top of a neon pink lipstick? Unicorn fans, eat your heart out.

And there we have it!

Overall, I think that these are all a great addition to a makeup lovers collection. Just with the Epic Lipstick range alone, there were 22 shades and now three new summer shades, so now we have 25 in total (including the two exclusive online shades). There are now six transformer shades. That gives a total number of 7 shades per original Epic Lipstick alone (for example, Mermaid Tale worn alone and then 6 new Mermaid Tale + Transformer combinations). Forget "25 shades", we now have 175 shade possibilities. Then count the 6 transformer shades as singular shades and we are up to 181. Now think of how many new looks that you can create with the transformer shades and your existing lipstick collection.

I think that Lottie Tomlinson, Avon mark. Brand Ambassador, professional makeup artist and blogger, got it bang on when she provided this quote for the range: "Avon have created the perfect way to reinvent your unloved lipsticks with these new lipstick transformers". The Epic Transformers are incredibly versatile, the possibilities are endless.

Let's talk about wear time though. With the Epic Lipstick original range, I found a correlation between pigmentation and wear time, with those with the best pigmentation wearing for longer. All three of these new shades are up there with the best of the original launch pigmentation wise, so they have great wear time. You can get a good few hours, so if you need it to last all day/night, I would still take it with you for top ups.

Worn alone, I don’t think that the Transformers wear as well as they do as toppers. Their wear time isn't as long due to them being sheer, Guilty Pleasure sinks into the creases of the lips and HolograFX will show up every dry area and look patchy, but I can let these things slide if they work great when used as their primary intended purpose which is to transform other shades. This is something that they do well.

Whilst we're talking about wearing them as top coats, I'll discuss how to apply them. To apply the Transformers shades, I first blotted the lipstick and then applied the second shade over the top straight from the stick. After, I wiped the lipstick clean with a makeup wipe.

I originally wanted to apply the Transformers shades with a lip brush, but it just wasn’t working how I wanted it to. I therefore found it easier to go for the way I mentioned above, but really it’s all about finding a way that you are comfortable with to get the look that you’re after.

If you want to purchase the new Epic Lipstick shades and the Epic Transformer Lipsticks, then they will be available from campaign 9 in the UK. I'm a Trendsetter Avon rep (don't worry, this hasn't in any way affected my thoughts or swayed my opinions in the review), and I will have them available on my online store earlier than regular reps as I am two campaigns ahead. They will be available on my store from the end of next week (17th March onwards).

Head over to my online Avon store and you can get courier or parcel shop delivery (UK only) and have access to the two online only Epic Lipstick shades too.  I also sometimes post offers for delivery and such over on my Twitter so make sure you're following me to catch them!

For Pinterest fans, make sure to head over to my Pinterest page to find my pins featuring the swatches in this post and get adding them to your boards!

  1. A few years back Bite beauty had come out with their silver iridescent shade called opal. It used to give the same effect like these lip transformers hehehe. I loved how the shades are so different. Great swatches. :-)
