Skinny Tan Coconut Water Tanning Mist and Dual Tanning Mitt reviews

Hey guys! The sun is finally here, so that means it’s time to get those legs out. Before you do so, I’m sure a lot of you out there are looking to break out that fake tan for a safe way to have that golden glow without the sun damage. It’s important to find the right fake tan for you though before taking that plunge. What shade of fake tan are you seeking? Is it an easy to apply, streak-free tan? Is it an easy and fast fake tan to apply? Sooo many things to consider.

To try to make that task a little easier, today I will be reviewing a popular tanning product from a popular tanning brand. The Skinny Tan Coconut Water Tanning Mist is a medium shade mist tanner, so instead of a mousse or a cream it’s like misting a body spray onto the skin before rubbing it all in.

It is designed to leave you with a quick and easy, streak-free tan in a medium shade that lasts up to 14 days. On top of that, the coconut water included in the formula helps to tone the skin and moisturise without any oiliness. Win win!

It has a coconutty summer scent to the tanner so there’s no typical fake tan smell during application. It also contains no guide colour so there’s no streaky orange bedsheets in the morning.

It comes packaged in a clear plastic spray bottle that holds 150ml of product and the tanner itself is clear in colour also.

In addition to the Coconut Water Tanning Mist, I also have the Skinny Tan Dual Tanning Mitt, so I’ll be reviewing that within this review also.

Application and Results:

To apply the Skinny Tan Coconut Water Tanning Mist, you need to first make sure that you’ve done the prep. Scrub and exfoliate the skin as well as remove any unwanted hair, and then you will need to wait at least an hour before continuing to allow the pores to close. It may be better to do the prep the day before instead, but I personally prefer to wait an hour after bathing and letting the tan develop overnight.

Once you’re ready, spray the mist onto the skin and massage it in with your hands, but only an area at a time. I’ve read that it’s best to follow the instructions completely and the instructions clearly state to use your hands. You can use disposable gloves to apply if you prefer, but for the sake of this review I went with just using my hands like the instructions state. When you have rubbed it all in, wait a few moments before buffing the tanner into areas such as the knees and elbows with a tanning mitt. Refrain from getting wet or sweaty in any way for at least 8 hours after application to allow it to develop.

On first spray you will instantly notice how gorgeous it smells. It’s like a holiday in a bottle, and you may find yourself checking to make sure that you didn’t pick up some sort of exotic body mist by mistake. In regards to how it feels, it is like applying a mist moisturiser. It isn’t greasy at all, but it is moisturising and fast drying.

I found it incredibly easy to use, but if you’re not used to using a tanning product that doesn’t have a guide colour then you may find yourself getting used to not having that. A good way to check though is by looking if there is a glisten/shine on the skin. If so, then you have covered the area. On top of it being easy to use, it is also a fab formula for speedy application. It didn’t take long at all to apply as the sprayer has such a wide spray radius and deposits a lot of product per spray onto the skin, so you can really fly through application.

The Skinny Tan Dual Tanning Mitt was also very comfortable for use. It fits onto the hand well and feels very robust. The material is velvetty soft so it’s nice to use also. I had no problems with it slipping off my hand or any friction when buffing and I found that it washes well too.

Results wise, I didn’t have any issues with streaking which was great, but I did have some problems with my hands. When I read the instructions and saw that it stated to use your hands I did anticipate that this would happen because, well, it’s fake tan on your hands. I’m sure we’ve all been there with the gradual tanning moisturiser orange hands business back in the day. However, due to not having any plastic gloves, I stuck with the instructions and used my hands. Trying to be proactive, I instantly washed my hands with a tan remover before using an exfoliating scrub on them also and a quick wash with regular hand soap. Did it work? No. I woke up with seriously dark palms of my hands which I took a photo of for you all:

I applied this on Saturday night and it took until Tuesday evening for my hands to look normal again, and that was with using tan remover a few times a day as well as exfoliating them. Because of this, I will definitely be trying out disposable gloves next time or even trying it out with a tanning mitt as I would with other tanning products.

Other than the hands, I have no complaints at all about the application or the results. I’m usually a fan of a lighter tan shade, but this medium shade was quite light so I was still happy with it. It isn't orange but I would describe it more as a golden tan. If you do want a darker shade you can apply more on first use (I didn’t go overboard) or apply over two days if you prefer to see how deep a shade you’ve gone first. I’d imagine fake tanning veterans would be more comfortable with working towards a deeper shade on the first use so will likely need to use more than someone who is trying it out for the first time.

Whilst the smell is gorgeous upon application, after it is developed you do begin to smell the usual fake tan scent. Once you wash it off though it’s all fine, but it’s worth keeping in mind if you want to apply before you head out for the day (which does get mentioned in the advertising for this product).

I’ve had this on for a good few days now and I haven’t yet noticed much fading, It did fade a slight amount after the first wash post-application, but that’s to be expected with all tanners I believe. It wasn’t bad at all and is still going strong.

Overall though I am really thrilled with this Tanning Mist. It’s such an easy and quick method of tanning and the smell really helps it to feel like summer. Even with a full body use, I barely used much of the mist so that means that it will last a long time too. Therefore, I’m happy to say that it is not only a fast, easy way to a streak-free tan, but it is definitely value for money also. Two nicely tanned thumbs up from me!

Product Rating: 8/10
