Alfa Italia Liscio Detangling Brush review

*
We've all heard of the Tangle Teezer, but, as I’m sure that you are also aware, it's not the only detangling brush on the market. Today we're going to be looking at a shortlisted brush from the Best Styling Brush category of the Best Beauty Stylist Awards, so if you suffer with knots or are simply after beautiful, sleek, glamourous hair, today's post is for you.

Alfa Italia are a brand that are inspired by the icons of Italian style and beauty (think Carla Bruni and Sofia Loren). Each of their products has been created so that you can recreate these styles at home. Their Liscio Detangling Brush is designed to fit into the palm of your hand and comes in a range of three finishes: gold, white gold and rose gold. It promises to glide through the hair with its soft bristles to detangle without tugging or pulling.

It works on both wet or dry hair, and is gentle enough to use on children too. In addition to that, the Liscio Detangling Brush can also be used on extensions and wigs.

I have to say straight up though that whilst this brush looks beautiful in person, it is a total pain to photograph nicely due to the fact that is like a mirror. You guys want to see the brush, not my face looking like I’m playing around in a mirror at a fun fair. Because of that, I do recommend that you check the main website out to see the Alfa Italia brush in all it’s glory.

As well as testing this out on myself, I decided to test it on someone who frequently experiences knots; my daughter. Being a toddler with shoulder length hair, she's always finding ways to accumulate knots galore. Every morning it can be a mission to brush them out to tie her hair up and out of her face as she doesn't like them being de-tangled. I am unable to test it out on wigs or extensions, so if you are here to see how well it works in that area then I sincerely apologise ahead of jumping into the review!

I’ll start with how it holds in the hand. If you’re right-handed, this will admittedly feel more comfortable when holding it than if you are left-handed. That’s not to say that you can’t use it if you are left-handed, but you may need to hold it slightly differently or settle for it just not sitting as well within your hand. Sorry, left-handed folks!

Moving on to how well it works, I found that upon brushing it through my own dry hair, it simply glided through. The bristles are gentle on the scalp and if you were to go slow enough I guess it could be sort of massaging. Not only does it carefully untangle any knots, it also leaves the hair feeling smooth, sleek and frizz free.

On wet hair I think it actually fares better. Using this straight after washing the hair detangles as if you’re brushing already smooth hair.

With this all said, I’ll admit now that my hair is never usually super knotty or hard to detangle anyway. My daughter, on the other hand, is a totally different story. How it fares on her is going to be where we really see what this brush is made of.

On the first run through my daughters dry hair, I bumped into a rather large knot. This, then, was the perfect chance to see how this worked. I brushed it through gently, and held on to the top of the hair and began to repeatedly (and still gently) brush the knot out. I'm glad to say that thanks to this brush the process only took around half of the time it would normally with less tears and screams that would occur with a different brush type.

Just like with my wet hair, this brush was even better on her wet hair. Knots were almost nothing and there was no crying whatsoever. Hurrah! That’s multiple happy customers with one purchase.

Overall, I can totally see why this Detangling Brush has been shortlisted for the Best Styling Brush category by Stylist.  Whilst it does work better on wet hair, it is still fantastic with dry knots too. It leaves a smooth and silky finish in its wake leaving you with the perfect finish before you take a step out of the door. On top of that, it is also a great brush to try on children if you encounter the screaming and crying every morning during brushing time.

If you’re looking for a new hairbrush, I give this one a huge double thumbs up for sure.
