Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara review

Whilst I absolutely love reviewing new products and getting the word out there for brands you may not yet have heard of, sometimes it is also great to take a look at a product that already has a great reputation to see if the hype is worth it. So today, I’m going to be discussing a product that already has a lot of praise and rave reviews as well as a loyal following: the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara.

Better Than Sex is described as being a mascara that is so amazing, it is better than sex (and partners everywhere are probably giving it that "oh really?" type of face, just like my boyfriend did).  It has an hourglass shaped brush and a long-wearing, smudgeproof, collagen-fuelled formula that promises to provide thick, long, dramatic lashes.

It comes packaged in a metallic rose tube and holds 8ml of product.

This mascara is the number one selling prestige mascara in America and is so loved and raved about (just give it a quick Google to see), when I got one for myself it was part excitement and part nerves. Was it going to be as amazing as everyone says, or was I about to feel really let down? It's time to find out, though. So let’s try it out.

Application and Results:

Whilst some products can seem pretty underwhelming when they have been hyped up so much, there is thankfully no such disappointment with this one.

Brushing it onto your lashes is a breeze. The brush is really capable of grabbing the lashes right in the inner corner of the eye so you can get great, even coverage in one stroke which is fantastic.

One coat is more than enough, but if you do want to go for two then it won’t clump up or give you spider lashes unless you have too much on your brush at once. Too Faced even suggest three coats, but I'm not sure if that is really necessary at all!

Here I am with no Better Than Sex Mascara (but I have curled my lashes with the Jeindeer Eyelash Curler):

Here I am with one coat on bare lashes on the left, but over the top of eyelash primer and with eyeliner on the right:

I don’t get any flaking whilst wearing this, but I do sometimes get a bit of smudging under my eye. I find no such issues though when I use an eyelash primer (such as Benefit’s They're Real! Tinted Primer or Shiseido's Nourishing Mascara Base, which I used in the swatches as a primer) and add a little powder under my eyes too.

It can take a little while to dry in comparison to some other mascaras, but is quicker than the slowest drying ones I can think of (such as MAC’s Upward Lash Mascara).

The packaging is lovely. It feels and looks like a high quality product that has a touch of luxury. The tube has a weight to it, so that with the metallic rose finish are what gives it that quality aspect.

So is it worth the hype? In my opinion, yes. I think that this could just be my holy grail mascara (sorry, Roller Lash, but I do still love you!). It applies so quickly, just one stroke and you have longer, more voluminous lashes with great curl. The brush reaches every lash and there is no clumping (unless you apply a little too much).

Yes there can be a bit of smudging, but pretty much every mascara I try leaves some traces. Using the primer and powder counteract this almost 100% though for me, so having that solution makes this mascara easily one of the best I’ve ever tried.

If you want to try out Too Faced's Better Than Sex Mascara, you can grab it from Debenhams or Too Faced.
